Chicago White Sox – One Of The Oldest Teams
The most popular baseball team located in Chicago, Illinois is the Chicago White Sox. They became part of the baseball sport in 1901. Chicago White Sox is one of the two teams that are known to be located in the Illinois region. Seeing as the team has been around for quite some time, they have won the World Series on two different occasions; years 1906 and 1917. The Chicago White Sox are commonly referred to as the “South Siders” by the fans.
Over the past few years the White Sox have had a change in uniform. They were the first team in major sports to put the names of their players on the back of their jersey. In 1912, the White Sox had one of the most famous logos in baseball. The logo was a large “S” in Roman style font, with a small “O” in the top loop of the “S” and a small “X” in the bottom loop of the “S”. The White Sox logo in 1949 was the word “SOX” in an Old English font.
The initial team colors for the Chicago White Sox in 1964 was black, which later was changed to navy blue. The away uniform worn by the Chicago White Sox went from gray to pale blue. The colors of the uniform changed once again in 1976 to red and black.
Additionally the teams “SOX” logo was changed to a modern-looking “SOX” in a bold font, with “CHICAGO” written across the jersey. The teams new uniform also had collars and were designed to be worn un-tucked. They had the option to wear shorts, which they did for the first game of a doubleheader against the Kansas City Royals in 1976. After being humiliated by the fans, the White Sox went to wearing pants.
The new owners of the Chicago White Sox that took over in 1981 came up with a plan to get the fans themselves to design the team’s uniform. The owners; Jerry Reinsfdorf and Eddie Einhorn felt this was a great way to get the fans involved into the team.
The new design that was revealed after this competition saw the Sox word in the center of the jersey. The word was found in the middle of a large blue stripe that had a slight trimming of red. This design was later again changed to the more up to date uniform that has the words “White Sox” across the front of the jersey in basic plain font.
Many people have liked many previous Chicago White Sox uniforms including that one that is used today. Most Chicago White Sox enthusiasts have demanded the opportunity to be able to purchase uniforms of both old and new designs.
